Syracuse, New York, July 28, 2010 – A Disaster Action Team from the American Red Cross of Central New York responded to a residential fire at 103 Scott Circle in Elbridge, NY this evening.  Damage to the home forced the temporary relocation of two adults and three children.  The Red Cross provided immediate assistance.

A second Disaster Action Team later responded to a residential fire at 2287 U.S. Route 11 in Mexico, NY, again providing prompt assistance to those affected.  The home was destroyed, forcing the relocation of a family of three adults.

The Disaster Action Team (DAT) responds to local residential emergencies and disasters such as fire. They are a group of volunteers trained in administering to the needs of victims of disasters. Red Cross assistance typically may include temporary emergency shelter, and financial assistance for food and replacement clothing and replacement medication and emotional support. Volunteers are always needed and those interested should contact the Director of Volunteers at (315) 234-2217 at the American Red Cross of Central New York Chapter.
